Marathon after work expedition to St Mary's in Kent. First time ever. I could have murdered a few caravan owners on the journey from Brighton, and Hastings should be forcibly removed from the map, but I eventually got there at 6pm and went to Dymchurch. No-one out over the entire massive bay. spooky.
Rigged 5m and sailed for an hour in clean chest high waves, evenly spaced all the way out to sea. They were travelling at a bit of an angle to the beach, but still cross shore to the wind. So as you could catch them waaaay out to sea, it didnt really matter. Lacked a bit in the peeling/breaking department, but good enough for a turn and cut back or two, in a kack handed port tack style!!
Rigged up to the 5.5m when the wind eased a bit and had another hour and a bit with the waves probably a bit cleaner and the sun dropping over the houses (bit strange when you are used to south facing beaches)
So, impressive lines of swell with zero chop, but lacking good punch or distance down the line. A very good expedition only marred by the disgusting water quality.
